Odessa's museum of archaeology

Museum of archaeology

The oldest building in the city is the Archaeological Museum, which was founded in 1825. It is housed in a classical style, built in 1883 by architect F. Gonsiorovskiy.
In the museum you will see rare archaeological finds that tell about life, culture, and tribes who inhabited the northern Black Sea region. Continuing interest is the Museum of Treasures, with its unique numismatic collection, as well as the exhibition "Monuments of Ancient Egypt", which shows the Egyptian mummies. At the front of the museum is a sculptural group "Laocoon." This is a copy of the Hellenistic works created by artists Rhodes in the I century BC, Agesandrom, Afondorom and Polydor.
