Deribasovskaya street

Deribasovskaya is the central street of Odessa, and one of the main attractions of the city. The original name of the street is Gimnazskaya, but sometimes it's also called Gimnazicheskaya. It was named in honor of the commercial gymnasium Volseya, opened by order of the first mayor of the city- Rishele. On July 6, 1811 Deribasovskaya street was called after the Odessa Mayor Joseph Mikhailovich de Ribas, who was involved in the development of the construction plan and managed the city since its foundation
The roadway is lined with paving stones and vehicles are not allowed to drive on the street. Today it is a favorite place for evening walks of citizens and guests of Odessa. It has a city garden, cinema "Utochkino" and many shops, cafes and restaurants.
